Rupee Depreciation
Depreciation means it takes more rupees to buy a dollar or another currency. It makes imports dearer and exports cheaper. Appreciation is the opposite.
Why It Matters
A weaker rupee is a pay rise for exporters and a price rise for everyone who buys imports.
In India
Over 2025 the rupee depreciated about 5% against the dollar, making it the weakest major Asian currency that year.
