Oversubscription

An IPO is oversubscribed when demand exceeds the shares available. A subscription of 50 times means investors bid for 50 times the shares on offer, and most applicants receive few or none.

Why It Matters

Heavy oversubscription usually means the shares were priced attractively, not that the company is necessarily better.

In India

Meesho’s 2025 IPO was oversubscribed roughly 80 times and LG Electronics India’s about 54 times.
