Market Breadth

Market breadth compares the number of stocks rising with those falling. Strong breadth means a rally is broad-based; weak breadth means a few large companies are carrying the index while most stocks lag.

Why It Matters

An index at a record high with weak breadth can leave most investors still losing money.

In India

When the Nifty hit a record in November 2025, many small-cap and mid-cap stocks were still well below their own highs.
