Kharif Crops
Kharif crops are sown at the start of the monsoon, around June and July, and harvested from September to November. They include rice, maize, cotton, soybean, groundnut and many pulses.
Why It Matters
A weak monsoon hits kharif crops first, and their prices feed into inflation within months.
In India
Gujarat’s groundnut and cotton harvests and Punjab’s paddy are major kharif crops.
