Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
Direct benefit transfer pays welfare benefits and subsidies directly into the bank accounts of eligible people, usually linked to Aadhaar, instead of through intermediaries or discounted goods. It reduces leakage and fake beneficiaries.
Why It Matters
DBT turned India’s bank accounts and Aadhaar into a delivery system for the welfare state.
In India
LPG subsidies, farmer income support under PM-KISAN and many scholarships are paid through DBT.
